Taking a fridge on a picnic, fishing on a riverbank, keeping a fridge in easy reach on a work site, or running a fridge for extended periods where vehicle power is not available, is a great reason to add a dedicated lithium battery to a compatible Brass Monkey Fridge/Freezer. The battery fits into a dedicated battery cradle installed in the fridge and then it is ready for independent operation.

Picking the Right Battery Size

There are 3 battery sizes available:

• 5.2AH
• 7.8AH
• 15.6AH

To determine the most suitable battery size for your fridge:

1. Check the fridge Amp rating on the specification page.
2. Consider how long the fridge needs to operate independently of vehicle power.
3. Estimate the fridge's hourly run time to maintain the set temperature:
   • For heavy use (frequent opening or exposure to sunlight), assume 50% run time.
   • For lighter use (shade or minimal opening), assume a lower run time.
4. Calculate required battery size: Multiply the fridge's Amp rating by the estimated independent run time and select the next size up.

Example Calculation:

• Fridge Amps = 5 amps
• Independent Use = 8 hours on-site
• Run Time = 30%/hour (covered area, minimal opening)

Battery Size = 5 Amps x (8 hours x 30%)
= 5 Amps x 2.4 hours
= 12AH

The closest size up is the 15.6AH battery.

Note: This is a rough estimate. Fridge running time will vary based on factors such as ambient temperature, fridge set temperature, location, and food-to-air ratio. Always estimate battery size based on the heaviest likely use. If in doubt, opt for a larger battery and/or consider a supplemental charging system.

Lithium Battery Charging

There are 4 methods to charge Brass Monkey Lithium Batteries:

1. Car Cigarette Lighter Socket:
   Plug the fridge into a car cigarette lighter socket to charge the battery while traveling. The fridge will continue running from the car while the battery charges.

2. Dedicated 12.6 Volt Mains Power Supply:
   Use the GH2059 to charge the battery while removed from the fridge. Ideal for preparing the battery for the next use or alternating between multiple batteries.

3. 6 Amp Mains Power Supply Adapter:
   Use the GH1628 to run the fridge and charge the battery simultaneously. Perfect for home use, as a party fridge, or for daily work use.

4. 100 Watt Solar Blanket:
   Use the GH2015 to plug directly into the fridge's DC socket. Great for extended independent operation where mains power is unavailable. Note: This is a supplemental solution, not a fully off-grid option.
